FAQ:

1. What is cast iron?
Cast iron is a type carbon steel. The other 2 main metals used in today's cookware are stainless steel and aluminium. The advantage of cast iron is that unlike the other 2, it does not need a synthetic coating (like Teflon).

2. What does seasoned mean?
Seasoned means it has a natural non-stick finish. it is not perfect, but it gets better with every use. This finish is achieved by baking the ware with vegetable oil at a high temperature and a layer of carbon deposit is left behind. Brand new, your skillet is seasoned, but can be improved overtime as you cook. Think of it as the foundation work (hard work) has been done, but can be further perfected.

3. How do I clean my cast iron?
Water, mild detergent and a brush will clean your ware, wipe it dry after wash and apply a thin coat of oil if it will not be used soon. If you live by the sea, do coat it after every use.

4. Why is there 'rust' stains on my brand new ware?
The part untreated by seasoning in the factory has a different colour, but it is not rust, it is simply not seasoned. This is the part your skillet was clamped as it went through the seasoning conveyor belt. It is normal and ALL Lodge products have this. If you cannot accept this fact, cast iron is not for you.
Having said that, due to local weather, a few piece may have real spots of SUPERFICIAL rust. You just need to wash it normally to remove it.

Key Note: pitting and unevenness is normal is cast iron
