Timber Hitch

The timber hitch is used to secure a rope to an object. The intention is to drag or move that object and the timber hitch facilitates this. An example would be...to move planks of wood with a crane. You can apply the timber hitch so that this can be done.

 

 Bring your rope around the pole
Step 1:
Bring the rope around the object you are doing to tie the timber hitch. Bring the working end around the standing end as shown.
 Twist the working end around the other endStep 2:
Wrap that end around itself as shown. A minimum of three turns is recommended. More turns can be applied for a better grip as there is more friction between the object and the rope to itself, thereby reducing the chances of the timber hitch becoming undone.
 Bring your rope around the pole
Completed knot.
