The round turn two and a half hitches is a basic knot that is used to secure a rope to an object. The knot's most common application in camping is to use this knot to secure the guy lines of tents to a peg.

Bring your rope around a pole

Step 1:

Bring the working end around the object you wish to secure to.

Go Around the pole one more time

Step 2:

Bring the working end around the pole, with a full proper round giving you the 'round turn' part of the knot. You can make more or less rounds although that would no longer be a round turn two and a half hitches knot.

 Make a half hitch

Step 3:

Make a half hitch on the standing part of the rope.

 Make another half hitch

Step 4:

Make another half hitch on the standing part of the rope. Keep the 2 half hitches as close as possible to each other and the round turn. This will help to keep your line taut.

Tip:
Neatly finish off the rope by tying more half hitches further down the standing part of the rope if you are tying a guy line so that your guy line is neat
