The Gekkota double pole tent is an excellent tent for expeditions. Comes in a small compact bag, with a good waterproof rating and a complete fly sheet.

The tent setup is quite different from other tents with the fly sheet (shell) setup first before the inside tent. So it does take at least a practice before getting it right and once you do so, it should take you perhaps 15 minutes with a friend to set it up. You should have 2 people to set it up as it requires a certain level of detail setup.

What you need (what you have with the Gekkota 2-men Tent)

  1. Room (The Tent)
  2. Shell (Flysheet)
  3. 2 Tent Poles
  4. 12 Pegs
  5. 6 Guy Lines (4 long; 2 short)
Slide the 2 poles through the sleeves

Step 1:

Slide the 2 poles through the sleeves of the shell. This works best with a 2 way action. First you push the pole from the end followed by dragging the sleeve towards the starting point of the pole.

Slot the 2 poles into the keys and form a semi-circle

Step 2:

Stick the 2 ends of the poles into the keys as shown. Make sure that the left pole goes into the left key and the right pole into the right key.

You should get a semi-circle shape on the floor as shown in the picture.

Tie the 6 guy lines to the tent to erect it

Step 3:

Join the guy lines to the correct points. 2 guy lines on each side of the semi-circle and 1 guy line in between the semi-circles.

Peg the guy lines to the ground and lift up the shell to erect it.

 Peg in the corners

Step 4:

Now peg down the corners of the shell to open it up. You should peg down 6 corners of the shell.

Your shell is now fully setup.

Insert the toggles into the loops

Step 5:

Open both doors and get ready to setup the room inside. You will see 2 rows of 5 loops on the ceiling of the shell. What you need to do is to join the correct toggles (attached to the room) to these loops.

It is a good idea to start from the first loop and move towards the opposite direction. Also make sure the 2 doors are correctly aligned to the 2 entrances.

Step 6:

The tent is now fully setup and ready for sleeping in.

To take down the tent, just reverse the process. You could tighten the guy lines at this point as well to get a good 'fit'.
