Going camping anytime soon? Do consider some tips before doing so, just to make your experience more pleasant.

Well before your camp:
  • Pick a date, time and make sure everyone is fine with it
  • Apply for your camping permit as required if you are camping at one of Singapore's public beaches. You could do it online orat any AXS station. Remember to get your friend's IC or FIN numbers.
  • Prepare a plan
You need not have a fixed plan and schedule, instead you should have a flexible plan of things you would want to do. For example instead of planning 5 to 7pm cycling, 8pm dinner, etc, you could just say you are planning to cycle in the evening, dinner at night. Flexibility would make an event less stressful
  • Be familiar with your equipment
Knowing how to setup your tent, how to operate your stove or how to change the batteries of your lamp will help prevent awkward situations such as figuring out how to do these at night or in the rain
  • Choose a location
  • Choose a location that suits your needs being close to toilets or away from crowds. If you can, do a survey of the area you want to camp and if thats possible, it would make your camping trip more pleasant.

24 hours before the camp:
  • Pack you bags!
Based on your activities, you would want to bring along things you need. For example, you will need swimming trunks or swim suits if you plan to swim. If you are going for long distance hikes, etc, pack as light as you can.
  • Find out about the weather. You could either visit www.weather.gov.sg or call the NEA weather hotline at 65427788. You may need to change your plans according to the weather.

At the camp:

  • Happy Camping!
